Bowen Energy Mining Information (Tarong Project)
EPC 1083 'Cooyar' '(215 sub-blocks) was granted on the 26 March 2008 and is located on the south Tarong Coal Basin in South East Queensland. It extends southwards some 50 km from the margins of Tarong energy's coal mining leases at Kunioon and Meandu. Exploration programs in this project will be directed at both domestic and possible export quality thermal coal.
Geological interpretation and reconnaissance programs have been performed over this tenement. These studies indicate that the southern part of the Tarong Basin remains under-explored. By extrapolation of a deposition model developed for the northern half of the basin it is suggested that additional exploration is warranted southwards of the Blackbutt Range. Some 10 km of strike length of prospective Tarong beds, partly overlain by a thin veneer of 'on-lapping' Jurassic-age sediments, extends from the foothills of the Blackbutt Range to the south. A first-stage scout drilling program has been proposed for these prospective areas within this project.
This coal seam gas video is a must watch.
It equals or exceeds the coal4breakfast video and will become part of history in Australia I believe. I do not know who has made it, and have only just received it, but it is impressive.

The Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM) will order Cougar Energy to keep its pilot Underground Coal Gasification plant near Kingaroy closed until the Government is assured that groundwater resources are protected.
This follows advice received by the department on 13 July from Cougar Energy that water quality tests taken on 29 June detected benzene and toluene in groundwater monitoring bores close to the plant.
"Rural property owners within a two kilometre radius of the UCG plant, and two kilometres of Plantation bore, are being advised not to use water from their bores for human consumption or stock watering until tests confirm there is no further contamination.

Land is being taken to accommodate these infrastructure expansions.
Residents have been aware for sometime of the pending infrastructures being placed on their land. The easements required for such developments will have an impact on the valuation of properties and the required 'buffer zones' will have an impact on the usefulness of land in the vicinity. The Bunya Mountains is under threat from some companies wanting to shortcut the distance from point A to point B by going across instead of around!

Ammonia may also reduce the ability of cilia to clear dust and other irritants from the upper respiratory tract (Earth Tech 2001). Severe cough and increased mucous production result from exposure to ammonia at concentrations from 50 to 150 ppm. RADS is an inflammatory disorder of the airways characterized by cough, wheezing and difficulty breathing (bronchial hyperactivity) caused by inhalation of a high concentration of irritating fumes, gases or smoke. It is also known as “irritant induced” asthma.

One of the nation's largest power generators has agreed to end a years-long federal lawsuit by paying $4.6 billion to reduce pollution that has eaten away at Northeast mountain ranges and national landmarks, The Associated Press has learned. (Read more)
Acidic particles and vapours are deposited via two processes - wet and dry deposition. Wet deposition is acid rain, the process by which acids with a pH normally below 5.6 are removed from the atmosphere in rain, snow, sleet or hail. Dry deposition takes place when particles such as fly ash, sulphates, nitrates, and gases (such as SO2 and NOx), are deposited on, or absorbed onto, surfaces. The gases can then be converted into acids when they contact water.
Folks, the following is a little bit of information picked up that is not too difficult to digest: Oxides of Sulphur are known to produce acid rain (Tarong Energy's emissions range 11 and 24 on a scale of 0 - 100). Oxides of Nitrogen cause breathing problems (Tarong’s emissions for this rank on 100 - very high and has been for years). Coal is a very impure fuel. It is mostly carbon but there are impurities like silicon, aluminum, calcium, magnesium, sodium, titanium, arsenic, potassium, sulphur and mercury, uranium and thorium. In fact 73 different elements have been found in coal. Various inorganic impurities do not get burnt when coal is burnt. These impurities turn into coal ash - between 3-30% depending on the 'type' of coal. The poorer the quality (such as Kunioon Mine) the higher the %. This burnt coal ash produces bottom ash (that which stays in the bottom of the chimney), and fly ash which can make up to 10-85% of the coal ash - depending on the type of burner, the type of boiler and the type of coal etc. What concerns me is Tarong Energy is reported to emit many times more impurities due to it's age, combine that with 'low grade coal' and you have a witches cauldron. Seems the 'economy' is way more important than people or land. Without people and land they don't have an economy.
Study shows Australia has world's worst polluting power stations. A new report by CARMA ranks Australia's power companies as the world's worst polluters per capita. After studying 50,000 plants, it found Australia generates 11 tonnes of emissions per person every year.
